INVERNESS — They may have been friendly opponents for the inaugural Match at Cabot Links on Monday, but PGA Tour pros Graham DeLaet and Graeme McDowell agreed that the Inverness course has the potential to someday host a tour stop.
“I can’t think of any reason why a golf course like this couldn’t host a really big event,” McDowell said in a media scrum before Monday’s competition. “I’ve played the Canadian Open in Toronto this year and really enjoyed it and I know we’re going to Royal Montreal next year. The Canadian Open, being RBC ambassadors both of us, we’d love to see more great events coming to this part of the world.
“Being Canadian, it’s great when the Canadian Open does get moved around,” added DeLaet. “All the guys really love it out at Shaughnessy, and Royal Montreal will be great next year. We spend a lot of time in the Toronto area, and it would be pretty special to come out here and play a championship on a golf course like this.”
