2018 Cape Breton Island Experience Guide

DCBA is launching an enhanced partnership program for the 2018 Cape Breton Island Experience Guide. This year, the guide will be organized by ‘experience type’ (e.g. outdoor adventure, culinary, etc.) rather than by ‘trail.’ The rationale being that prospective visitors know what they like to do but may not necessarily be aware of where to look (i.e. which trail) until further along in their trip planning process. This approach will get your experience or experience-based package in front of potential visitors according to their interests.

To help ensure that your experience gets the best return on your investment, we have enhanced the criteria this year to align the content to what visitors are seeking. Our research shows us that visitors are seeking:
Outdoor adventure
Coastal/water adventure
Living cultures (Mi’kmaq, Acadian, Celtic/Gaelic)
Culinary Experiences
History
Music & the Arts (i.e., music events, theatre performances, artisans)
Golf
If your experience does not match the new criteria, we encourage you to make adjustments to your offering. Of course, all experiences can still be listed on our website.

In addition to a profile in the 2018 Experience Guide, your experience and/or experience-based package will also be featured on cbisland.com and profiled on DCBA’s social media channels. The cost to each operator will remain at $500 plus tax per half page profile.

Participants will receive the following benefits:

Distribution of approximately 300,000 Experience Guides in the following areas:
Inserted in Saltscapes Food & Travel (Atlantic Canada and Ontario) and the Saltscapes Summer 2018 Issue
Inserted in the Bay Ferries and Northumberland Ferries onboard guides
Distributed on Marine Atlantic Ferries* – Port aux Basque and Argentia, NL
Distributed at on-Island and key provincial visitor information centers
Distributed at the Saltscapes Expo and key events
Provided to select tour operators and wholesalers
Marine Atlantic distribution (new this year) is to be confirmed
An E-version will also be available for viewing or download on cbisland.com.

Participants will also receive:
A featured listing on cbisland.com with top-tier sorting on key landing pages and at the top of listing pages.
An enhanced listing profile, including additional photos and option for video.
Featured experiences/experience packages will be promoted on DCBA social channels: Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
A detailed analytics report on the partner’s cbisland.com web content.
Book now as space is limited!

INDUSTRY CONTENT REQUIREMENTS:
The content of the experience and/or experience package needs to focus on authentic Cape Breton experiences. When developing your experience or package, think “only in Cape Breton!”
The experience needs to fit within one of the experience categories being sought by visitors: outdoor adventure, coastal/water adventure, living cultures (Mi’kmaq, Acadian, Celtic/Gaelic), culinary experiences, history, music & the arts, or golf.
Provide business name, experience/package name, website, and phone #.
Provide one high res photo, landscape format with no text or graphics on the photo.
Provide a description of the experience/package (maximum 80 words).
Provide the price point for the experience/package that clearly indicates the rate per person, per couple or per family. If the package includes accommodations, it should state whether the rate is based on single, double or family occupancy.
Provide the dates the experience/package will be available.
Please confirm your request to participate in the travel planner by no later than February 9th, 2018. All materials related to your ad will be required by February 16th, 2018.

Please contact Stacey to confirm you space in the Experience Guide or with any inquiries.

Saltscapes Expo 2018 is just around the corner. This year’s show runs April 20-22 at a new location – 350 Horseshoe Lake Drive, Halifax. The new spot is an open concept, bright and clean and offers better opportunities to design a show with more efficient traffic flow, so every exhibitor will be exposed to as many people as possible.

Also new this year is the partnership model between DCBA and Industry Partners. This year, DCBA is offering a 50/50 co-promotion regarding the cost of the space within a Cape Breton Island destination presence. The cost for participating partners is $800 plus taxes for the booth space. This is an $800 saving, as a 10×10 booth is $1,600 plus tax and expenses.

This year, the Cape Breton Island space will taking an experiential approach versus a retail approach. Set up, signage, schedules, etc. will be similar to last year. As details are finalized and Industry participation is confirmed, we will send out more details. Please note that the Expo has a dedicated retail section for those that wish only to sell.

If you wish to participate in this co-promotion or have any questions, please contact:

Mark Barber
Email: mark@dcba.ca
Phone: 902-539-9374

Space is limited, so please confirm by Friday, February 23 at 4:00 pm. Any space that is not confirmed by partners post the 23rd will be released back to Saltscapes Expo.

We hope you are able to join us in this valuable promotion.
